Guiseley.......3
Thackley.....3
IN pouring rain Guiseley AFC's Youth team notched a 3-0 win over local rivals Thackley in the Northern Under-19 Alliance.
An FA directive now means that Academy teams ouitside professional clubs have to be known as youth teams so Guiseley have undergone a name change this season.
They have also seen, due
yto age limitations, a change in personnel although stalwarts John Lamb, in goal, Andy Butler in central defence and Danny McCartney in midfield still provide the backbone of the team.
What looked like a comfortable win for Guiseley was anything but. It was not until they were awarded a penalty early in the second-half, from which Simon Richardson scored with some composure, and Thackley had a man sent off that Guiseley started to play an acceptable standard of football.
Thackley in fact dominated first-half possession without really threatening the home goal in which John Lamb was consistently sound.
Obviously his recent experiences with the Reserves team has helped take his game on to another level.
Thackley's neat passing game had Guiseley's midfield in knots but the defence of Eddie Tarsus, Andrew Butler, Simon Tweddle and Rick Taylor remained solid throughout.
The game was played in torrential rain and Thackley can take some comfort from the fact that they had played some excellent football in atrocious conditions.
Guiseley's goals came from Simon Richardson (2) and Nick Baldwin.
Tonight (Thursday) Guiseley Youth are due to entertain Emley in the Axa FA Youth Cup (7.30 pm).
