A man was due to appear before Bradford magistrates today charged with murder after the discovery of a body on school playing fields.
The 25-year-old man, from Allerton, was charged late last night after being questioned by detectives at Toller Lane Police station.
He was arrested shortly before midnight on Tuesday, when he handed himself in at Bradford Central Police station.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "In connection with an incident on Tuesday, September 19, a 25-year-old local man has now been charged with murder and will appear before Bradford magistrates today."
The 39-year-old victim, who has not been formally identified, was found unconscious at the back of Rhodesway Upper School, Oaks Lane, Allerton, at 11.30pm on Tuesday.
Police officers attempted to resuscitate him at the scene, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
The results of a post-mortem examination carried out yesterday to establish the exact cause of death were expected to be released later today.
An area surrounding the rear entrance of the school was cordoned off immediately after the discovery of the body, but the school was open as normal yesterday.
Bradford senior investigating officer Detective Chief Superintendent Max Mclean is heading the inquiry, and an incident room has been set up at Toller Lane Police station.
Detectives hope to confirm the identity of the victim today. He is believed to be from the Allerton area, and efforts are being made to contact his relatives.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the incident room at Toller Lane Police via the help desk on (01274) 376259.
