An author who suggested that Charlotte Bront murdered her sisters will speak next month in Haworth.

James Tully, author of The Crimes of Charlotte Bront, is one of five writers taking part in the public discussion.

Conjuring With The Bronts will be chaired by Bob Barnard, a leading member of the Bront Society and an established crime writer.

He will also talk to Lynne Reid Banks, Maureen Peters and Glyn Hughes, who have mixed biography and fiction in works about the Bronts. The five writers will explore the processes and problems involved with the "faction" genre, and answer questions from the audience.

Andrew McCarthy, education officer at the Bront Parsonage Museum, says the writers have tried to fill in the gaps in what we know about the Bronts.

"There are still lots of pieces of the Bront jigsaw that are missing, lots of mysteries, and these books have given us very different and sometimes very controversial portraits of the family," he says.

Conjuring With The Brontes, which is run in conjunction with Ilkley Literature Festival, is on Friday, October 6, at 7pm, in West Lane Baptist Church, Haworth. Tickets cost £6 and must be bought in advance from the education officer at Bront Parsonage Museum (tel 01535 644333 or e-mail bronte@bronte.prestel.co.uk).
