Albion Cats 10, Wakefield 64 - The Cats got a harsh lesson in the realities of life in the Premier Division against the strongest side in Womens Rugby League.

However they stood up to the onslaught and can take a lot of positives from their performance.

Keighley started well, giving as good as they got but after six minutes Wakefield pressure forced a try. There then followed a 10 minute spell where Albion knock-ons led to continuous Wakefield possession and two more tries.

Once Albion regained the ball the half-backs Tracey Lynch and Laura Ackroyd started to dictate play. On the 20th minute Laura Ackroyd hoisted a bomb and Leanne Ludlam snapped up the ball up and forced her way over the line. Laura Ackroyd added the kick.

In addition the efforts of Keira Burns drove Albion forward. However Wakefield soon hit back with two more converted tries.

Another Ackroyd kick was fumbled by the defence and Saima Hussain used her speed to score.

Just before half-time the visitors managed to snap up a short kick-off and scored to make it 10-32 at the break.

In the second half the greater fitness and experience of the Wakefield side started to count and they ran in six unanswered tries. However Albion never stopped battling and all the team can be proud of their efforts.

The ladies team does not have a fixture this weekend.
