Albion Under-16's 6, Churwell 26 - Albion Under-16's faced their first match in the Premier Division against experienced Leeds side Morley.
However the home side set off well and were soon pressing on the try line. Bingley could have opened the scoring when awarded a penalty 20m in front of the posts. Though loose forward Nicky Lister opted to take a quick tap and unfortunately lost the ball.
After this the Leeds side asserted themselves but ferocious tackling kept them out. The visitors were too well organised and soon forced Bingley to drop out from under the posts. Straight from this the centre jinked through to open the scoring with a converted try.
From the restart Churwell drove straight up the pitch and by spinning the ball from one side to another notched up another converted try. A few minutes later more good handling gained a further try and put the match out of Bingley's reach.
The home side remained unbowed and a 40m break by Alistair Beaumont ended just short of the line. Hooker Jackson French was unlucky to lose the ball in his dive over. Just before the break Churwell snatched another try to make the score 0-22.
Playing uphill in the second half Bingley could have been forgiven for folding. Instead the whole team raised their game to the required standard. The attack started to chime with half-backs Andy Feather and James Bargett dictating play and runners Alistair Beaumont, Eddie Wilson and Scott Bellamy making good ground. In defence Eddie Wilson and Alistair Beaumont were also to the fore ably assisted by Jason Battle.
Despite the efforts of the Bingley defence, Churwell opened the scoring in the second half, squeezing in at the corner for a try. However Bingley increased their grip on the game.
Finally with 53 minutes of the match gone Bingley opened their account in the premiership. Strong drives to the line put the visitors on the back foot and Andy Feather danced over from 10m out. Nicky Lister added the conversion to give Bingley a 6-4 'win' in the second half.
All in all it was a difficult baptism of fire for Bingley but they can take credit for the way they stood up to a larger and more experienced side.
On Sunday Bingley travel to the Wakefield side Redhill in another tough encounter.
