INDUSTRY in Aireborough has been dealt a second major blow in a month as bosses announced the closure of a Rawdon textiles

factory, with the loss of more than 40 jobs.

Just weeks after Guiseley pram manufacturer Silver Cross cut its workforce by almost a quarter, bosses have decided to close Colourflex Yarn Processors, Riverside Mills, making 45 to 48 employees redundant.

Owner Leeds Group have been in consultations with the 55-strong workforce since August 22, and now plan to move the firm's twisting and dyeing operations to another factory near Carlisle.

Jeff Beardsley said: "Operations will cease at our Rawdon branch by the end of October. We have managed to secure a small number of jobs elsewhere in the group. The situation is a reflection of a deterioration in trading conditions in UK textiles."

Several employees at the

factory have been found alternative posts at plants elsewhere in Yorkshire, Lancashire, and some at the Carlisle factory.

Mr Beardsley said he did not know of the firm's plans for the future of the Colourflex site.
