SHEEP are causing red faces in the toilet block near the White Wells Cottage on Ilkley Moor, parish councillors have been told.
"It is not very nice when you are sitting there and sheep come through the door," Queens Road resident Frazer Irwin told the meeting of the financial and general purposes committee of the parish council.
Mr Irwin told the meeting that the sheep used the toilets to shelter from the rain and the cold.
Bradford Council cleansing bosses have threatened to close the toilets because it would cost too much to repair the sewers. The underground pipes have been damaged by tree roots.
They have considered turning the facilities into composting toilets but this is only viable when very few people use them, which is not the case at White Wells.
Parish councillors want the toilets repairing and it was reported that many people were prepared to see the offending trees cut down to save the public convenience.
They agreed that doors should be fitted to the toilets to prevent sheep wandering in and disturbing people.
Parish Council chairman Lexa Robinson said she thought is was a disgrace that in this day and age, there was so many problems in providing public toilets at the site.
"I think whoever is responsible for these toilets should be downright ashamed of themselves," said Coun Robinson.
