PROBABLY the finest bowler in the history of English cricket will hold court at a special dinner in our patch next month.
Former Yorkshire and England paceman Freddie Trueman will be the guest speaker at the Olicanian Cricket Club's sportsman's dinner which will be held at the Hollins Hall Hotel, near Baildon, on Friday, October 27.
Fiery Fred was, of course, the first bowler to three hundred Test wickets and he featured in the last Yorkshire side to win the County Championship in 1968. Freddie's reputation as an after-dinner speaker is almost as legendary as his ability with the cricket ball.
Since his retirement from first-class cricket he's kept busy as a presenter of Indoor League for Yorkshire Television as well as a cricket summariser for the BBC and other broadcasters. Tickets for the dinner, costing £30, are available from Mark Dexter on 07932 690226.
