WHARFEDALE Ramblers CC played five games out of the ten scheduled this summer. Cup commitments and bad weather saw prestigious games against Chesterfield, Otley, Men of Derwent and Sheffield Collegiate go to the wall but of the five played Ramblers won them all.
The club was represented by 35 players in the season and anyone who would like a game for this nomadic side in 2001 or anyone who would like to umpire is invited to ring Mike Clegg on 01943 609308.
Ramblers defeated Durham University in their opening game by a six wicket margin. Michael Brendankamp claimed 5-32 as the students were restricted to 184-9. Shannon Foird with 32, Sean Fitzsimmons with a superb 92 not out and Adrian Cowgill with 29 not out helped Ramblers to victory.
Fitzsimmons then showed his capabilities with the ball taking 4-17 in the seven wickets win over Yorkshire Gentlemen who were dismissed for 95. Nick Tubbs returned 3-24 ands then made an unbeaten 32 while Shannon Ford made 48 no.
Ramblers had a 33 runs win over Addingham after making 172 with G Barker hitting 42 no, Fitzsimmons 31, Ford 24 and Chris Quaife 28. As Addingham fell for 139 Joe McTigue took 3-2.
Ramblers totalled 229-6 at Ilkley with S Williss making 97 and P Slade 30. Ilkley then fell for 172 as Mike Clegg took 4-25, Paul Slade 3-15 and Paul Harrand 2-29.
In the final game at Scarborough Ramblers made 181-5 with David Lester hitting 41, Paul Slade 46 no, Stuart Hudson 25, David Brook 21 and S Williss 21.
