BRAMHOPE Cricket Club are busy celebrating their magnificent title win in their first season in Division One of the Wetherby and District League.

The championship was gained on Saturday in a match delayed from the previous week due to the fuel crisis. Bramhope however have been fuelled all season by their in-form bowler Kevin Page.

The man who returned to the club from Farnley in the Central Yorkshire League, bringing with him wicketkeeper Craig Russell and batsman Ian Bell, has been on fire this season.

He has claimed over 70 wickets despite missing five games and he has certainly had a great end to the season.

Just a few weeks ago, the day before he got married, he took all ten wickets in a game. He returned from honeymoon to continue his devastating form with a 7-37 return as Old Modernians crashed out for 68 on Saturday in reply to Bramhope's 147-7.

The only sad aspect of the game was that whilst Bramhope were toasting their success their neighbours were wallowing in the misery that relegation brings.

Leading run makers in Saturday's win were Gary Howden with 39 and Craig Russell with 25.

Page's superb form this season has won him a holiday for two in the West Indies from a regional newspaper and a sports manufacturer.

Club stalwart John Heath said: "This has been a really exciting season for us. It was our first year in Division One and now we have won the title. I think the turning point was when Kevin returned to the club and brought the other two boys with him."

One of those sharing in Bramhope's success has been Bradford Bulls' Australian coach Matthew Elliott who turns out for the club whenever his rugby league commitments allow,
