Guiseley.....3

LINCOLN.......2

GUISELEY'S patchy form continues. They followed their FA Cup defeat by Farsley Celtic with a 1-0 win over their great rivals at Throstle Nest just days later but then crashed down to earth again when they visited high flying Vauxhall Motors on Saturday. But it was back to winning ways on Tuesday when they took on Lincoln United.

Guiseley started well and won a lot of possession which produced a chance for Andy Shuttleworth in the 14th minute but he ehaded his effort from a Simon Ireland cross across the face of the goal.

Danny Hargreaves put Lincoln ahead in the 27th minute and they held that lead until the break.

In the second-half Guiseley levelled when Matt Daly headed in Simon Ireland's corner in the 51st minute.

Lincoln pressed but Guiseley took the lead in the 61st minute when Ireland headed in a James Nettleton cross.

Lincoln pulled back level when Dave Frecklington netted in the 84th minute.

In a tense finish Guiseley clinched the points when Simon Ireland knocked the ball over the 'keeper to net the winner in the 89th minute.

The unbeaten UniBond Division One leaders did not have it all their own way and in the early stages Benn Gallagher floated a ball in to trouble the home 'keeper and a right foot shot from David Cooke almost found the net.

However, it was Vauxhall who took the lead when Darren Nesbit shot home in the 16th minute.

A header from Cooke on 30 minutes and a close shout when the ball was taken off the toes of Andy Shuttleworth suggested Guiseley may well get back into it.

A breakaway on 60 minutes put paid to that. A quick burst down the right wing saw the ball passed square for Greg Blundell to rifle a shot past Nigel Muttick in the Guiseley goal.

Des Hazel twice went close and Andy Williams also had a good effort before Nick Walton completed the scoring for the home side.

On a cold, damp night at Celtic it became red hot when tempers flared and three players were sent off. Guiseley's Simon Trevitt could feel unlucky to make the walk as he was only trying to sort out the fracas which developed after Des Hazel was laid out by a punch.

As to the football Guiseley played uphill in the first-half and almost scored when Des Hazel raced onto a through ball but the 'keeper saved.

David Cooke had a 35th minute shot saved and then he failed to get a touch to a ball pulled back by Hazel.

Cooke did however find the target in the 61st minute with a right foot shot.

Hazel could have added to the score but shot over on 50 minutes and then Benn Gallagher put Cooke through in the 52nd minute but he was pushed wide. Andy Shuttleworth had a shot saved before the skirmish developed in the 65th minute.

Andy Shuttleworth finished the game with two other good efforts but Guiseley were unable to add to their score.

l On Saturday Guiseley have a re-arranged league game at home to Gretna (3 pm).

The Reserves' game against Burscough has thus been postponed until Tuesday (7.45 pm).

The Reserves played some good football but lost 3-2 to Leek on Saturday and the injury hit side lost 2-0 to Marine on Tuesday. Steve Daykin and Kim Evangelatos scored against Leek.
