Graham Bairstow in action for Phoenix
Keighley Phoenix finally got their first points on the board with a 5-1 victory over Otley Town.
Making a few changes Paul Ettenfield's side were always in command and Ben Furness headed home Mick Gillmartin's corner to give Phoenix the lead on fifteen minutes. The lead was increased when Gillmartin slotted home his first goal of the season.
Graham Bairstow was the adjudged to have fouled a Otley player to give them a penalty and a way back into the match, but Paul Linyard pulled off a fine save.
Phoenix increased their lead mid-way into the second half when Furness' trickery was too much for the Otley defence and they brought him down. Jimmy Spencer hammered the penalty into the roof of the net for 3-0. Otley pulled one back before Furness skipped round the defence to slot home number four.
Then came the goal of the game. Mark Sutcliffe's deep cross was met by Furness on the volley and this flew into the top corner.
Silsden continued their rampage at the tp of Division One with a 7-1 victory over Heckmondwike Town. Riley slotted a hat-trick and was supported by gaols from Bland, Hedges, Pearson and Rosser.
Steeton also hit the goal trail with a 9-2 victory over Roberttown with a hat-trick from ian Craven. Other strikes came from J Gill (2), S Barker, M Familio, D Gaudiusi and T Sugden.
A 3-0 scoreline was a bit unfair on a young Keighley Phoenix Reserve side who battled throughout the ninety minutes at Brighouse. In a close first half Brighouse took the lead on twenty minutes and Phoenix also lost keeper Paul McGuiness through injury, though they had veteran keeper Heath Maddocks on the bench and he had a outstanding game.
Dave Hull should have equalised in the second half but his shot went over the bar with the goal at his mercy.
Brighouse struck twice at the death to give the scoreline a tilted balance. Gareth Atkinson capped another impressive display with a man of the match performance and Tom Whitwham battled hard in midfield.
Silsden Reserves drew 5-5 with Tyersal thanks to goals from C Alsone (2), G Whitaker (2) and K Muldrig.
