TRIALS World Champion Dougie Lampkin spent a night in hospital after suffering an injury while competing in the british Championship last weekend.
Lampkin looked odds on to maintain his 100 per cent unbeaten run in this season's domestic championship, cleaning the entire first lap and then only dropping two marks on his second visit to the sticky hazards.
Heading Raga by nine marks Dougie looked very much in control as he began his final lap, but then disaster struck.
Fighting to control his bike on the slippery surface Lampkin struck an exposed tree root with his foot as he travelled at speed. The impact dislocated Lampkin's big toe, with the toe itself being physically forced under his foot as a result of the impact.
Although, in great pain, he managed to put his own toe back in place but retired to prevent further damage and to seek medical advice.
With Lampkin on his way to hospital, Spaniard Adam Raga was left to fight it out with Dougie's team mate Sam Connor who put in a late charge to close the gap on his Spanish rival to just seven marks at the finish.
The pair's respective results earned them second and third places respectively in the final overall standings for 2000, but despite his injury Dougie had already secured the British title.
Dougie was not the only Lampkin having difficulties, his cousin James suffered mechanical problems as he searched for just two points to take his first ever domestic title in the Expert class. James, also from Silsden, held on to bring two British titles back to the district.
