Residents in Hirst Wood, Saltaire, have rallied to try to turn a former eyesore into an oasis of calm and beauty.
People of all ages are involved in the community project to make a seating area where people can watch the world go by on Hirst Wood Road, near Hirst Wood garages.
Anne Mainman, who asked young people in the area what they wanted, said: "There are about five grown-ups and three teenagers helping in the clean-up but the majority are children. They are working enthusiastically to clear the weeds and concrete and make it somewhere nice to sit."
Anne, pictured left with some of the young helpers, added: "We are in desperate need of stone with which to build a low wall around the seating area. We have some funding but we are trying desperately to save as much money as we can. If anyone is able to help with stone, we would be very grateful."
