A group of Mini lovers will stage a go-slow protest today as the last car of its kind rolls off the production line today after 40 years.

More than 35 enthusiasts will crawl in convoy at less than 20mph from Cullingworth to Batley and back to car dealers Appleyards in Shipley as a mark of displeasure that their beloved motors are to be replaced by BMW's new MINI in 2001.

Nigel Wadie, 29, left, from Cottingley, who has two Minis, said: "The new Mini is nothing like the old one which has only had minor modifications since 1959.

''The new one is probably a very nice car... but it won't ever be a Mini."
