HOT on the heels of her fellow student, an Ilkley Grammar School pupil is creating a mosaic masterpiece at a community garden.
Katy Wright, 17, right, is seeing her design come to life at Darwin Gardens Millennium Green.
The mosaic, based on the theme of Living Waters, will be
created using pebbles taken from the bed of the River Wharfe.
The mosaic shows a bold and vigorous abstract pattern,
suggestive of bright swirling streams, dark pools and stony riverbeds and is framed by a circular stone seat.
The mosaic monument will be placed within a sheltered glade between two steep-sided ghylls.
The mosaic's theme pays homage to Ilkley's spring waters as a healing influence.
Katy, of Wheatley Grove, in Ben Rhydding, who designed the mosaic as part of an A Level Art project, said she was delighted her entry was chosen. She said: "It is great. It is nice to see it coming together from the design on paper. It will be strange to see it in years to come."
Dr Peter Harnett, centre, chairman of the Darwin Garden's Trust, said: "It is wonderful. We chose it because of the fact that we were looking for something strikingly different from the other mosaic, which is almost classical. This one is very much modern and up to date."
Work is being carried out on the mosaic by contractor Ian Layfield, left. (38-10-AM)
