HEMSWORTH 22 V Ilkley 10

FOLLOWING their well earned victory against Dinnington in the previous week Ilkley went into this their fourth league game full of confidence.

In the first half hour both sides probed each others defences but neither side scored. Ilkley had the best scoring chances with three missed penalties from centre Justin Hewitt.

With only minutes to go in the first half Hemsworth at last broke Ilkley's defences. A scrum just outside Ilkley's 22 saw Hemwsworth's back row break loose and attack the blind side. Poor marking and tackling allowed them to reach the line for an unconverted try.

Ilkley quickly responded in the second half. A good back move in Hemsworth's 22 and a diagonal kick by Hewitt to the corner was chased by winger Brendan Kelly to touch down for an unconverted try.

Hemsworth quickly responded with a penalty. They then started to draw away from Ilkley with a converted try following some sloppy missed tackles by Ilkley.

But Ilkley responded with their second unconverted try.

Once again a good back move provided full back Ian Moffat to with the space to go over.

With ten minutes to go Hemsworth added a further seven points with another converted try to leave the score 22-10.

Ilkley have a pool game on Saturday. Opponents and venue to be agreed.

Ilkley Under-9's...10 Skipton ... 3

AN excellent start to the season for Ilkley U9s with a convincing 10-3 victory.

Oliver Dennis opened the account in the first 90 seconds and Ilkley quickly proceeded to dominate the first-half, with some excellent tackling and imaginative ball handling.

Skipton did settle down and stem the tide against them, but Ilkley were always in control and should bode well for the new season.

Patrick Gibbons was awarded man-of-the-match.
