IT was a case of goals-galore in the first round of the Northern Plant Hire Challenge Trophy at the weekend, with the 15-goal extravaganza at Gargrave and a 16-goal feast at Silsden setting the standard.
The home side from Division One were in great form against the Premiership newcomers and the scores were level at 6-6 after 90 minutes, but the visitors came through in extra time.
Even that remarkable game could not eclipsed another umpteen-goal classic when Silsden Athletic scored six at home to Barrowford United, only to lose 10-6.
Lothersdale Athletic from Division Two had the best result of the day when they defeated Cononley Sports from the Premier Section 6-2 at Marley, while Division Three side Earby made Cowling from Division One fight all the way for a 1-0 result.
Premiership Cross Hills had too much fire-power for Intake from Division One, running out 7-0 winners, while the all-Premier section clash between Grindleton and Embsay at Grindleton went to the visitors 4-1.
Hellifield Sports played the first-half against neighbours Horton with only ten men, but came through with a 2-0 verdict, while Division One Bradley were rewarded for their long trek to Division Three Ingleton with a 1-0 win.
In the all-Division One tie at Haworth, Bronte Wanderers got the better of Skipton Town 3-1, but there was an upset at Premier side Skipton LMS when Barnoldswick from Division One pulled off a 4-2 shock win. Keighley Lifts progressed at the expense of Sutton FC with a 5-2 scoreline.
Ties at Waddington, where Skipton Bulldogs were visitors, and Clitheroe, who were due to entertain McBrides, were postponed because of waterlogged pitches, but Grassington United are facing a fine for non-fulfilment of their game against Carleton.
