Crusader Under-16's romped to a 67-3 Yorkshire Cup victory over Redcar.
Despite the overwhelming scoreline most of their tries came from excellent backing up and support play, rather than weak Redcar tackling.
The forwards gained good first phase possession and the tough summer fitness training paid off giving play-makers Spencer and Tillotson an embarrassment of options. The big forwards ran straight and hard and the rucking was uncompromising while the backs always threatened and scored some excellent tries.
When Redcar did get possession the Keighley defence held firm and kept out some determined attacks. The excellent team performance bodes well for sterner tests ahead.
Crusaders Under-13's reaped the rewards for hard work and team spirit with a 19-0 victory over a strong Wharfedale side. The defence stopped the Dalesmen's strong runners with some thumping tackles while stand-off Liam McGee unleashed the backs at every opportunity. The back row of Craig Spencer, Scott Dyson and Sam Watkinson regularly won ball against a very physical team. Matthew Langstaff used his pace to score a hat-trick of tries with Scott Dyson converting two. The team has yet to concede a try in their three games so far this season.
Crusaders Under-12's pulled off a 14-12 victory over a big Roundhegians side at Moortown. What the Keighley side lacked in side they made up for with determination. After a scoreless first half the Leeds side ran in a converted try which spurred Keighley into action. Rob Stansfield crossed in the corner and Anthony Geraghty converted.
From the kick off the forwards put Stansfield over again and Geraghty added the extras. Roundhegians hit back with their pacey winger racing past the Keighley wings only to be stopped in his tracks by a fine cover tackle. The referee judged it to be high and from the penalty a large forward barged his way over.
With time up the Leeds kicker stepped up to equal the scores, but his kick went wide. The Keighley front row of Hagyard, Burnhope and Blackwell worked hard in the scrums and the line-outs were well contested by Nixon and Burns in a fine team effort.
