Silsden Golf Club's juniors rounded off a successful season with an appearance in the northern regional final of the Sunday Telegraph Junior Golf Championship at Eaglescliffe GC, near Stockton on Tees, last Friday.
The team had qualified for the final by winning the Bradford Union team championship at Keighley in the summer, but unfortunately failed to make it through to the national finals. Silsden had already enjoyed a successful league season, finishing second in their division to win promotion for next year.
n Baildon's Ian Martin won the Bradford District Amateur Championship at Keighley on Sunday, beating Richard Wheatley of Bingley St Ives by 2 & 1 in a closely fought match. Martin, who won the title in 1998, got off to a flying start and was two up after three holes. Silsden's Alasdair Clarke had earlier lost to Martin in the semi-final.
n Former Fardew professional Laurie Turner won the Yorkshire Order of Merit, overtaking Gordon J Brand of Baildon when he finished joint third in the Yorkshire Classic at Malton and Norton.
n Keighley junior Liam Houldsworth has reached the semi-finals of the Bradford District Junior Matchplay Championships. He plays Lee Shepherd of Cleckheaton at Shipley on October 29. The other semi is between Simon Bell (Northcliffe) and Richard Oddy (Woodhall Hills).
