Angry parents say a child will be killed unless action is taken to stop speeding drivers on a Bradford estate.

The parents say the motorists racing along Farm Hill Road, in Thorpe Edge, Bradford, have careered off the road crashing into parked vehicles, lampposts, and garden walls in recent months.

Mother-of-two Cath Wilson, 28, of Farm Hill Road, Thorpe Edge, said she feared for her children when they were playing out.

She said: "We've sent numerous petitions to Bradford Council but nothing ever happens.

"How many petitions can we do? It's going to take someone being killed before they do anything.

"The other week a car came flying around the corner on two wheels and ploughed into a lamppost. It was incredibly lucky that there wasn't a child standing there. It could have been far more serious.

"In the last four months there have been three accidents on this road.

"What we need is speed bumps putting in to stop the cars driving so fast. If there were bumps down I'm sure they'd think twice about haring around the corners."

Mrs Wilson said speeding cars had crashed into a neighbour's van and a gatepost making her afraid to let her eight-year old daughter Keeley, and son Ross, six, play outside.

She said: "I'm extremely worried about them. I don't let them go outside the garden to play, it's too dangerous."

A spokesperson for the Council's Traffic Unit said: "Unfortunately, we have not received a petition from residents at Farm Hill Road but if they have a copy of it and would like to send it directly to us we will certainly look into their request for traffic-calming measures."

Acting Inspector Gerry O'Shea, of Eccleshill Police, said: "I've looked at our records from July 25 and we have attended only one accident involving two vehicles in Farm Hill Road.

"This tends to suggest that the road is no worse than any other area in Bradford for accidents.

"But in view of what the residents are saying we will resolve to increase our patrols in that area to ascertain if there is a problem, and if there is we will deal with it."
