Housewives in Cliffe Mount, Bolton Road, Bradford, are fighting an incessant battle against black grit which invades their homes every time the wind is in the south-west. They believe the grit comes from the Valley Road electricity power station chimney - the tallest in Bradford. Mrs Vera Wright of 650, Bolton Road, demonstrated the grit on window sills in the back-yard. "Sometimes I sweep this yard three times a day," she said.
