SHADOW Home Secretary Anne Widdecombe visited Adel to discuss law and order issues.
Miss Widdecombe, who was in Leeds to take part in television's Question Time, took time out to meet with Adam Pritchard, prospective parliamentary candidate for Leeds North West and residents.
She also met up with the local co-ordinator of a scheme set up to end distraction
burglaries for the elderly.
Mr Pritchard, who will be fighting Harold Best MP at the General Election, said: "All of our surveys show that law and order is the number one priority for people in Leeds.
"So I am delighted that Anne was able to come and outline some of our policies to local people."
Miss Widdecombe promised that a Tory government would restore policing levels.
"I was able to explain to people in Adel that our policies of cops in shops will allow police officers to base themselves in the community rather than return to Weetwood Police headquarters. "
A Tory government would contract out the paperwork that takes arresting officers off the beat. "By restoring police numbers to those that we left in 1997 will increase the level of visible policing in the community," said Miss Widdecombe.
Miss Widdecombe also met Brian Steele, from Age Concern in Leeds.
