Residents on a congested Baildon street are cautiously celebrating after learning they are to get more parking places.
People living in Aireview Crescent have been campaigning for four years to rid their street of grass verges which they are forced to park on.
Shipley MP Chris Leslie backed the residents and urged Bradford Council to act quickly.
At a recent meeting of the Council's Shipley Area Panel it was decided the grass verges would be hardened at a cost of £1,500.
But resident Roy Mackin, who started a petition to alert the Council about the parking problems, greeted the news with caution.
Mr Mackin, said: "Between my neighbour and myself we have seven cars which makes parking a problem anyway.
"If you park on one side of the road this obstructs the other side and causes problems for refuse collectors. I dread to think what would happen if there was a fire because a fire engine could certainly not get through.
"We have been campaigning for a while and it is good news that something is going to be done but I hope it is done quickly before a serious accident takes place.
"We hope it will be in the correct area, on the opposite side of the existing hard verges from numbers 21 to 33."
Mr Leslie said: "The Council has had sympathy for the residents and made some progress but it has not been swift enough.
"The number of cars and car ownership has greatly increased now and this has a caused difficulties for refuse lorries wanting to get up and down the street. It could be potentially a very dangerous situation. There are also difficulties with children running out between parked cars.''
Councillor David Herdson (Con, Shipley West) chairman of the Shipley Area Panel, said: "We are aware of the problems in this street and that is why money has been set aside to create more parking spaces for the residents.
There was not adequate provision and the work will take place during this financial year."
