Demand for digital television looks set to increase according to research by leading set-top manufacturer Pace.

A Gallup poll of 1,000 consum-ers for Saltaire based Pace Micro Technology suggests that more than 40 per cent of the British population plan to be using digital TV before the end of the year.

While 28 per cent of those asked already received a digital service, a further 13 per cent said they intended to switch within 12 months.

Adding this total to the number who said they plan to switch within two years, the research indicates that more than 50 per cent of TV users will be using digital by the end of 2002.

Pace is anticipating the sharp-est increase in use among the younger age groups, with some 41 per cent of 16 to 24 year olds who were asked stating that they plan to move to digital by the close of the year.
