Police are trying to stop a nightclub from renewing its entertainments licence after a man and a woman were injured in a shooting outside the premises last November.
West Yorkshire Police have objected to an application by Angela Minott for the renewal of her licence for Planet Venus in Sunbridge Road.
Chief Inspector Ray Shepherd has written to Bradford Council's Licensing Panel opposing the application which will be heard next Wednesday.
In a letter to members he says there has been serious disorder associated with the premises and police cannot adequately supervise the club.
His letter claims the applicant is rarely at the club and conditions of the existing entertainments licence have been broken because unregistered door staff have been employed.
But today John Cordingley, licensing consultant representing Miss Minott, said the grounds of the objections were strongly denied.
Mr Cordingley, who will attend the panel meeting, said: "I am unwilling to comment prematurely because I have only today been advised of both the police objections and referral to the licensing panel.
"The grounds of objection are strongly denied. Concern expressed by the police will be answered. Representations will be put forward to members on behalf of the licensee at the appropriate time."
Miss Minott has asked for a renewal of the entertainments licence from 10am to 3am all week.
Members will be told by officers that the premises have had a licence since 1993 and it was renewed without objection in 1998 and 1999.
But an application for the renewal of the licence in January last year was put on hold to allow police to monitor the premises.
Officers say the Human Rights Act gives the right to peaceful enjoyment of possessions, subject to the state's right to control the use of property in the general interest.
They say a fair balance must be struck between public safety and the applicant's rights.
lFour people have been charged in connection with a shooting in which a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were injured outside Planet Venus early on November 27.
