The future of Campari could be in the hands of a Bradford College student.
A last-minute entry into an international competition has won art student Laura Cook a trip to Monte Carlo and the chance to have her design used globally for the re-launch of the alcoholic tipple.
Art and design students at the college were among those at six institutions in the UK competing to produce the artwork.
Campari ran a competition throughout Europe to create a new image for the company, aimed at making it more attractive to young people, and moving away from itsolder and more soophisticated market.
Bradford College was one of the six colleges in the UK invited to take part, and a spokesman for Campari International said: "The feedback has been extremely positive, not least from Bradford College, who have been very keen and enthusiastic.
"Having heard of Bradford College's excellent creative reputation, we were delighted when they accepted our invitation to take part."
The competition was judged yesterday at the Yorkshire Craft Centre when representatives from Campari joined Bradford entrepreneur John Pennington to choose the best design.
Laura, who is on the art foundation course at the college, could not believe it when she won, especially as it was a last minute decision to enter.
She said: "I was worried that the image might have been a little too over-the-top for the brief but I was sure I wanted to use the red fishnets."
A friend convinced her to enter and she is now very glad that she did as she will soon be jetting off for a weekend in Monte Carlo, courtesy of Campari International.
Even up until the minutes before her name was announced, Laura was sure her image was unsuitable. But the judges thought the image gave just the right balance of sexuality, provocation and fun, and they said they knew almost instantly it was a hit.
Her work will now be seen in an international exhibition to be organised by Campari, and is now in the running to be the new overall image of the world-famous drink.
