Bradford City chiefs have warned fans not to be duped into buying fake vouchers for the club's new megastore.

The club has posted warnings at its new Up Front store after several shoppers tried to use the forged discount vouchers to buy items there.

The vouchers calim they can be spent in the club's new 25,000 sq ft store, which opened for business at the end of last year.

City managing director Shaun Harvey, said he believed that the fake white and claret vouchers had been on sale in Bradford pubs.

He said: "We were made aware a fortnight ago that there were a number of fake vouchers circulating allowing people a £10 discount in the club shop.

"These vouchers have not been issued by the club and when we discovered they were in circulation we told the police and put up the posters at the club shops notifying fans.

"We are being told that they are being sold in pubs at a price significantly below the £10 on the voucher. They are white with claret writing on them.

"I would advise anyone approached in a pub and offered a voucher not to accept and to contact the police."

Mr Harvey added that the forged tokens should not be confused with official £50 vouchers that are being given to loyal Bantam fans in their new 2001/2002 season ticket.

He said: "What we are concerned with is that we don't want these confused with the official vouchers that come with the 2001/2002 season ticket.

"The fake vouchers don't look anything like the real thing which is ticket 40 in the season ticket book."

Inspector Anthony Walker, of Bradford Central Police, said: "I would advise people to only purchase vouchers from the recognised outlets and not from people in pubs.

"We would ask anyone who comes into contact with people attempting to sell vouchers outside the recognised the outlets to pass on information to the police on 0845 6060606."
