BARWICK .............. 3
TRINITY ATH...........1
After completing eight wins on the trot without playing particularly well, Baildon Trinity Athletic ironically went down to their second successive defeat despite showing good form.
As in the 2-1 defeat at home to Pudsey, where they went down to a penalty and a shocking off-side goal that was allowed to stand, Baildon can count themselves a little unfortunate to taste defeat again.
This was a crunch game and Baildon set about their task well in the first-half. The match was scoreless at the interval but Baildon ought to have been ahead on the balance of play.
Indeed, Oliver Atkinson missed a gilt-edged chance and Baildon once again could look at their inability to convert superior play into goals.
However, they did go ahead in the second-half when Simon Dawson was fouled in the 18 yard area. The reliable Danny Jowett stepped up to convert the penalty.
From here it looked as if Baildon would go on to win but they conceded a freak goal. A clearance by the goalkeeper struck a Barwick forward's back and rebounded to a colleague who netted the equaliser.
Still Baildon looked the more likely side to win the game. They launched constant attacks, with Gavin Renton being particularly threatening down the right.
However, two late defensive errors gifted the game to Barwick.
Baildon's promotion hopes are now dwindling rapidly and they face three tough games. Tonight, WEdnesday, they are at Armley and on Saturday entertain Ossett Common Rovers (kick-off 1.45pm).
Then on Easter Monday they meet Horsforth St Margaret's in the Wharfedale District FA cup final at the Guiseley AFC ground (kick-off 11am).
BAILDON TRINITY........1
QUARRY ARMS.............3
This Bradford Sunday Alliance match was switched to the Quarry Arms pitch because of the unfit state of Baildon's ground.
In the first-half both sides created a number of chances but somehow they went begging.
Noone seemed to have the ability to put the final ball into the net and half-time arrived with the game surprisingly still goalless.
In the second-half Quarry took the lead but so open was the play that it did not take long for Baildon to equalise. The goal came from Ian Firth, whose shot was deflected past the Quarry goalkeeper.
After this there were several chances for Baildon to take the lead but they failed to do so and were made to pay when Quarry scored two late goals.
Skipton TOWN U-15..........0
BAILDON TRINITY U-15......5
This comprehensive Craven Junior League Division A victory was marred by a bad injury to Baildon defender Ben Moncaster.
He suffered rib and stomach injuries in an accidental clash 15 minutes from the end and had to be taken to Airedale General Hospital where he was detained overnight.
Special thanks go to Skipton's physio Dave Merritt, who expertly looked after the player until the ambulance arrived from Keighley.
In the match itself both sides had absentees because of the holidays, and Skipton were able to field only ten players.
Baildon took advantage and got on top from the start, with Andrew Padgett and Adam Edwards dominating midfield.
Chances were missed before leading scorer Chris Reardon put Baildon ahead with a neat finish.
A great crossfield ball by Padgett led to Reardon netting a second before half-time and the game was well and truly in Baildon's hands after this.
The score when Moncaster's injury occurred was 4-0 and perhaps the best goal of the game had been scored by Calum Cullen. It ended a superb passing movement down the right which eventually saw James Brown sending in a low cross to the far post for Cullen to ram home.
After the game was delayed for 15 minutes because of Moncaster's injury, Baildon added a fifth through Reardon, for whom the match had turned into a personal triumph.
In the end he scored four times, showing coolness and sharpness in front of goal. While the spotlight was on the attackers, Baildon's defenders - with centre-backs Craig Renton and Nathan Barber prominent - can be pleased with their second clean sheet in succession.
l The games involving Baildon Trinity Reserves and Trinity U-17 were postponed.
