A former temporary classroom which has been transformed into a meeting place for bored Baildon teenagers is to be officially opened later this month.
The Hut - sited on the Ian Clough Hall car park in the heart of the village - opened its doors to 13- to 17-year-olds earlier this year.
Now Baildon Action for Youth (BAY), the group which worked for the past four years to establish the drop-in centre, is preparing for an opening ceremony on Friday, April 27.
Facilities at The Hut - which has attracted financial donations of some £6,000 - include pool and table tennis as well as a kitchen area, music, heating, furniture and facilities for the disabled.
The venue is currently only open on Thursday nights, when it is attracting more than a dozen young people, but BAY hopes to recruit more volunteers to enable it to be opened on more evenings.
Dozens of guests - including individuals and representatives of all the firms and other organisations which donated labour, equipment, materials, cash and expertise to get the project off the ground - have been invited to the opening ceremony. The official opening is also set to see Yorkshire Water present BAY with a £1,000 donation for running costs.
l Would-be volunteers - who must be over 18 and prepared to undergo police checks - or anyone wanting further information about BAY should call the Reverend Sarah Groves on (01274) 581852.
