Farsley Celtic 0, Bradford Park Avenue 3: Leaders Bradford Park Avenue took another big step towards the UniBond Division One title by taking a maximum from their nearest neighbours Farsley Celtic.
Avenue re-opened a five point gap with a 2-1 home win over North Ferriby United on Saturday and they stretched it to seven yesterday as Vauxhall Motors and Ashton United, second and third respectively, were again held to draws.
Avenue got off to a dream start at Throstle Nest by scoring in the third minute but Celtic fought their way back into the game only to see the points slip away after a late brace from Park Avenue's top scorer Andy Hayward.
All of which delighted Bradford boss Trevor Storton, "I think our better fitness told in the end. We score a lot of late goals because we are a 90 minute team," he said.
"It is an excellent result for us because these are always tricky games. No matter what we do in terms of tactics or preparation it is always going to be a hard game against Farsley.
"They gave us a tough game and we had to change our style a bit to get the ball in their half. They had a good chance to level at 1-0 and that could have changed the game but the longer it went on with us just in front the more likely we were to win.
"We stuck to our task and the two late goals made the scoreline look a little more emphatic."
It was Kieron O'Brien who beat Celtic keeper Liam Sutcliffe with the early effort which separated the sides until the last five minutes.
The home side had two good chances. Damien Henderson headed over with the goal at his mercy, and Wes Freeman was foiled by a good save from Gavin Kelly when he had only the keeper to beat.
As he had done in Saturday's victory, Hayward sprung the offside trap to race on to double Avenue's lead and the gloss was put on the win when he netted his second and Avenue's third in the final minute.
