ANOTHER controversial plan to site a mobile phone mast in Horsforth has been met with anger and exasperation by townsfolk.

BT Cellnet has applied to Leeds City Council for the determination of six antennae and four dishes on top of the telephone exchange at the junction of Featherbank Lane and New Road Side.

Councillor Chris Townsley (Lib Dem, Horsforth) labelled the plans unacceptable and said he was exasperated at the number of applications being put in by mobile phone companies in the township.

"Yet again we have another application for one of these wretched masts. It is disgraceful - it is so near to a residential area and it has never been conclusively proven that there is no danger to people. This latest plan is another slap in the face for Horsforth

residents.

"We are still not seeing companies looking at sharing masts and it is something that the city

council planners must start insisting on and to illustrate my point, there are already two masts on top of Carrington's Curtains not 200 metres away.

"I have already sent in my objections and a leaflet will be going out to residents in the area asking them for their comments.

"What is it with Horsforth? Why must companies besiege the town with these applications, which are arriving in increasing numbers."

The plan will be determined at the next development control panel west meeting at Leeds Civic Hall early next month.
