A HUSBAND and wife team are keeping it in
the family when it comes to raising cash for charity.
Glenys and Richard Lowe, of Burley-in-Wharfedale, are both committed to employing their talents to benefit others.
Glenys, 52, hand-crafts hundreds of greeting cards and Richard, 55, puts his green-fingers to good use.
Between them the retired couple, of The Robins, raise hundreds of pounds for various causes every year.
Mr Lowe said: "It is something we both enjoy doing, giving something back. You can't always be taking in life, can you?"
Glenys took up filigree or quilling - the art of rolling and shaping paper - 12 years ago.
She said: "It gets the brain thinking sometimes as to what you can produce.
"I went to craft class at Burley Grange and I became hooked on quilling and thoroughly enjoy doing it."
Since then her designs have been in hot demand - with every penny she makes being handed over to charity.
Children's hospice Martin House sells her work through its Headingley-based shop.
Glenys also hands over the funds from the cards she sells herself to the hospice or to Burley Methodist Church's Redevelopment Fund.
Glenys said: "So far this year, I have raised £130 from the cards I have sold. That is not including the ones sold at the shop."
The couple's house is also overtaken with the fruits of Richard's labour - literally.
Mr Lowe, 55, sells more than 2,000 bedding plants, hanging baskets and tomatoes each year - with the proceeds being given to the redevelopment fund.
The couple's conservatory, porch and greenhouse are packed to the rafters with plants -
following hundreds of orders from neighbours and friends.
Mr Lowe said: "I have had to buy a tomato house this year. I keep running out of space. It keeps me busy!"
