STRIKER Elliott Beddard was well and truly at home as he notched a hat-trick for Horsforth St. Margaret's as they retained the Wharfedale FA Challenge Cup.
Former Guiseley AFC striker Beddard returned to his old Nethermoor Park haunt to grab three goals as the powerful Saints side battered a gallant Baildon side into submission.
The injury hit youngsters from Baildon played their part in an entertaining game and surely their turn will come again.
St Margaret's on the other hand had won the trophy for the previous two years and Beddard's hat-trick helped his side to a hat-trick.
The Airedale International sponsored Challenge Cup final was held on the Guiseley AFC ground on Easter Monday morning.
With Guiseley having an away fixture in the evening at Matlock, it was decided by the local FA to see if more interest could be aroused by playing this final on a Bank Holiday Monday morning.
How the locals responded. The weather was perfect and the game attracted the largest crowd for many years at a final.
Horsforth St. Margaret's got off to a flying start with a goal inside six minutes from Elliott Beddard, who then added a second a minute later.
Baildon held out well until the interval and a goal could have made all the difference and got them back into the game.
On the resumption however it was St. Margaret's who scored the decisive goal and then they went on to a comfortable victory with Beddard completing his hat-trick.
The other Saints goals came from Denis Metcalf (2), Paul Scott and Darren Currie.
At the presentation following the game the Secretary of the Wharfedale FA Reg. Allwood thanked the sponsors Airedale International Air Conditioning Ltd. of Rawdon and also the Directors of Guiseley AFC for the loan of their ground and facilities.
He also thanked the match officials, referee Paul Varley (Burley-in- Wharfedale) and his assistants Richard Holdsworth (Burley-in- Wharfedale) and David Waugh (Baildon) and the fourth official George Pye (Burley-in-Wharfedale).
The presentation of the Challenge Cup and individual mementoes to the players and match officials was made by the retiring director of Guiseley AFC Norman Jukes.

St Margaret's route to the final was to beat previous winners Guiseley Reserves in the first round 3-0 with goals from Paul Hoban, Darren Currie and Andrew Lamb; to beat Burley Trojans 4-1 in the second round with goals from Andrew Lamb 2, Darren Currie and Jamie Marshall; to beat Rawdon Old Boys 5-2 in the quarter-final with goals from Andrew Lamb 2, Anthony Clay, Jason Warren and Paul Scott; and then to beat Otley Town 2-1 in the semi-finals with goals from Paul Scott and Darren Currie.
Baildon Trinity got to the finals by beating Ilkley AFC Youth 6-0 in the first round with goals from Nick James 3, Luke Szpara, Danny Jowett and an own goal; by beating Park Row Associates 3-2 in the second round with goals from Luke Szpara, Danny Jowett and Andrew Haran; by beating Rawdon AFC 6-2 in the quarter finals with goals from Danny Jowett 2, Neil Barlow 2 and Nick James 2; and finally by beating Salts Old Boys 3-2 in the semi-finals with goals from Chris Marsden, Nick James and Chris Hawker.
Junior Cup
Final on Sunday
The Wharfedale FA Junior Under-16 Cup final will be staged at Esholt Sports Club on Sunday, April 22nd with a 10.30 am kick-off.
Contesting the final will be Otley Town Juniors and Ilkley Juniors.
