A major plan to transform Airedale into a world-class centre for high-tech industries is being developed by Bradford Council in partnership with local high-tech companies.

On Tuesday the council's executive committee will be asked to approve the proposals including a consultation programme.

This consultation programme would involve the public, local firms and regeneration partners, including Bradford Vision and Yorkshire Forward.

The regeneration blueprints for Keighley, Bingley, Ilkley and Shipley aim to boost jobs and investment opportunities across the district.

Bradford district already accounts for over 30 per cent of all jobs in the region's electronics industry and 60per cent of these are located in Airedale.

Cllr Simon Cooke, executive committee member for the economy, says: "The economic growth of Airedale is a key element in the delivery of Bradford's 2020 Vision for a prosperous new future.

"The council and the private sector are joining forces to build on the area's expanding electronics and high-tech business successes.

"This blueprint aims to turn Airedale into an international centre for high-tech innovation and industry by attracting investors, people and new homes. A track record of year on year growth is an excellent platform for an exciting new dawn for Airedale and the whole district."

The strategy is being backed by many of the area's leading companies including Pace Micro Technology, Filtronic Comtec, Eldon Technology and Bradford Technology Ltd.

If approved, the proposals will be presented to local town centre partnerships and area panels in the summer.
