RACERS Steve Dunn and Craven Moses got the hill climb season off to a bang.
They were both on hot form at the first meeting of the year at the Harewood track where cars from former Formula One racers to production cars are put through their paces up the track.
Organisers got the go-ahead for the event after consulting the Ministry of Agriculture and Steve Dunn took advantage to get behind the wheel of his new car, a 1700cc Mallock.
Last year he drove a Catteram Seven, but during the winter has switched to the bright green mean machine. "Mallock might not be a big name outside the world of motorsport, but in the past they built F1 cars and were driven by the great racers like Sterling Moss," Steve said.
Many of today's top drivers also cut their teeth in single seater racing with their cars. The company is stills involved in Touring Car and GT Racing.
Steve, who works for Silentnight Furniture, set a time of 64.03 seconds to win the Sports Libre 1400 - 2litre class.
Craven Moses also piloted his self-built car to a class win. the businessman sponsors the class through his company Maklan Injection Mouldings and went on to carry home his own trophy. The section is for cars powered by motorcycle engines of 600 - 1100cc with the lightweight machines producing an incredible amount of power to propel them up the hillclimb course.
The next Harewood meeting is on May 13 when a number of local drivers will be taking part.
"It is a fast and furious sport and fans can get really close to the action. Although it can be one of the cheapest forms of motorsport there are considerable costs and I would like to hear from any potential sponsors," Steve said.
