Lord Mayor Councillor Stanley King took the controls of a Keighley and District Travel bus, and had a fare old time!
The transport buff enjoyed a two-hour stint at the company's driving school in Tockwith, near Wetherby. The session was organised by K&DT as a tribute to the civic head for the support he has shown to Keighley during his term in office.
Cllr King said: "It was a thoroughly marvellous experience.
"It certainly gave me a good insight into the techniques of bus driving, and by all accounts I passed with flying colours! I even surprised myself.
"I have driven trams and trolley buses before but never a modern service vehicle. I am very grateful to Keighley and District Travel for its kindness, and I am available if it is ever short of drivers!"
Tests faced during the session ranged from reversing around cones, to negotiating a chicane.
The event was arranged following a chance comment by the Lord Mayor -- a noted transport author and historian -- during a visit to K&DT in January, when he mentioned to company chairman Giles Fearnley that he had never driven a modern bus.
A K&DT spokesman said: "The Lord Mayor has been wholly supportive of Keighley and its public transport system throughout his time in office and this was our way of saying thank you."
