A GOLF trip of a lifetime awaits amateur Robert Sunderland and Keighley professional Mike Bradley if they get through the next stage of Europe's biggest pro-am competition, the Lombard Trophy.
Mr Sunderland, 64, who is now retired, plays of a handicap of 13. He took his first step on the road to San Lorenzo in Portugal when he won the club qualifying competition with a nett score of 63.
After teaming up with Mike Bradley they will play in the regional final at Pannal on May 23 and victory would see them on an all expenses paid trip to San Lorenzo in October.
Mike Bradley, 33, has been pro at Keighley for nine years and played in the Open at Troon in 1997. He also won the Leeds cup in 1999. The top professional in the regional final receives £475 and there are also prizes for the top amateurs.
Branshaw amateur Richard Howe, 57, and professional Mark Tyler will be aiming to beat them to the top prize. Mr Howe has been playing for seven years and is a 16-handicap golfer. Mark Tyler, 27, has been professional at Branshaw for five years.
CLUB GOLFERS have the chance to play alongside top professionals in the English Open Pro-Am competition in June.
The Marriott Hollins Hall Hotel is to stage its own 'Marriott Masters' competition with places in the Pro-Am competition up for grabs.
The qualifying 'Masters' event will be an individual stableford held on Monday, May 14 with entry costing £25 of which £2 will be donated to the Golf Foundation. The day includes lunch, Marriott gift, prizes for the leading players and an exclusive golf break at any one of the 11 Marriott Country Clubs in the UK.
The event has a maximum handicap limit of 18 for men and 24 for ladies and the winners will play alongside one of Europe's leading professionals at the 7,145 yard Forest of Arden championship course which has played host to six PGA European Tour events.
