Shooting
Keighley Rifle and Pistol Club held its 78th annual meeting recently and members were told the club was in a good position with some superb perfrmances throughout the year.
However they were told that club captain David Lee was leaving the club after starting a new job at Lancaster University. He had just won the club's Best Shot competition and was also on the Yorkshire County team.
Officers for the coming year are: President: Mr F Pickles, Chairman: B T Holmes, Vice-chairman: G C Barker, Secretary, D Archer; Treasurer, G C Barker. Match secretary: A Greenwood; Assistant match secretary, Mr F Pickles; Club captain, K Turkington; Ammunition steward, R Moore. Committee: K Turkington, M J Morris, A Greenwood, M Millbank, P O'Hara.

Bridge
Keighley Bridge Club results Monday 1 M Bradford and J Bower, 2 J Biles and B Vickerman, 3 P Abbott and M Wood. Wednesday afternoon north-south: 1 M Bradford and G Hargreaves. East-west 1 (tie) P Sinclair and M Cluett and L Davies and M Atkinson. Wednesday evening north-south: 1 Mr and Mrs Close, 2 S Sharpe and P Mathers, 3 R Smith and A Jowett. East-west: 1 J Spencer and M Green, 2 N Ramsey and D Green, 3 M Cluett and G Jennison. Friday evening: 1 Mr and Mrs Dean, 2 T Hird and N Sutcliffe, 3 J Boocock and A Morton.
Angling
Members of the Marsden Star Angling Club held at match on the canal at Barr Lane on Sunday. Result: 1 Tim Boland (KL Tackle) 5lb 4oz; 2 Ian Scott (HMG) 3:15; 3 Daz Watson (KL Tackle) 3:11; 4 Richard thorn (Headingley) 3:02; 5 Nigel Kendle (Skipton) 2:07; 6 Kevin Trevors (KL Tackle) 2:05.
Wednesday evening matches start on May 9 with the first match at Barr Lane.
Pigeon Racing
Following discussions with the Ministry of Agriculture the ban on training and racing pigeons has been lifted giving local clubs the green light to start racing.
However the number of race points is restricted because of the continuing crisis and the first race was switched from Uttoxeter, which is a Foot and Mouth restricted area, to Walsall.
Oxenhope Homing Society members held their first old bird race of the season with 88 pigeons taking part. They flew 85 miles from Walsall. Results: 1 R D Cooper, 2 J Bradley, 3 G Metcalfe, 4 J Bradley.
Keighley West Flying Club results: 1 M E Henry, 2 J Hanson and daughter, 3 S O'Callgahan, 4 J Hanson and daughter, 5 Holdsworth and Bottomley.
Silsden and District members raced 116 birds from Nottingham, results: 1 Mr and Mrs J Waterhouse, 2 J Albone, 3 & 4 Grayston & Pickles.
Bingley & District Homing Society results: 1 Pickles and Weatherley, 2 J Craven & Son, 3 M Lowe and Sons, 4 Mr and Mrs A Muff.
