Shipley resident Rosemary Cole will be travelling to Costa Rica this summer to carry out scientific research with the environmental charity Earthwatch, after winning an Earthwatch Millennium Award aimed at the over-50s.
The Award gives Rosemary the chance to work alongside scientists from the charity Earthwatch on the Costa Rican Tropical Dry Forest project.
The project aims to explore how insects maintain a critically endangered habitat - the rainforest.
The Earthwatch Millennium Award scheme is funded by £1.3million of National Lottery money and is supported by the Royal & Sun Alliance.
Julian Laird, director of programmes at Earthwatch, said: "These awards will change lives by giving global horizons."
