Bradford escapologist Shahid Malik has sucessfully completed his "comeback" spectacular at Lister Park, Bradford. He wriggled free 150ft above the ground from a straitjacket as he was suspended upside down from a rope that was wrapped in blazing sacking. Mr Malik, who describes himself as the world's No.1 escapologist, was carrying out his first stunt for nine months. His previous stunt led to his receiving serious burns.

Bradford's blood donors have surpassed themselves. Last night's response to the blood donating session at St. Luke's Hospital was the city's highest ever - 135 out of 202 who were called, about 60 per cent.
"We are very pleased with the response from Bradford. It is proving a very good centre," said an official of the Blood Transfusion Service today. "We usually expect a response of around 47 per cent."
