ALMOST 1,000 people have so far signed a petition calling for a pedestrian crossing to be installed on a notorious Guiseley road.
Parents of both Guiseley School and Tranmere Park Primary have joined together to call for a pelican crossing on Bradford Road, which is crossed by pupils at both schools.
They fear their children's lives have been put at risk because the road has been without a crossing warden for the last six months. They are also angry that recent Leeds City Council surveys showed that the road did not qualify for a pelican crossing.
One of the parents behind the campaign, Fiona Harris, said that about 1,000 names had been added to the petitions so far and that not all of the forms - which had been available at both school receptions, White Cross Post Office and Guiseley Library - had yet been returned.
"The petition will still be circulating this weekend and we hope to get a few more people to sign it," said Mrs Harris.
The petition will be presented to Leeds City Council in a couple of weeks when a final total of signatures is known.
