Yorkshire's small businesses are losing out on £11 billion worth of turnover annually through lack of resources and failure to work with similarly sized firms, according to new research.
The report says that more than 130,000, or half of the region's small companies, admit that in the last 12 months they have been unable to take advantage of new ideas or opportunities.
The findings, published by Clearlybusiness, estimate each small firm in Yorkshire has lost out on £42,000 in turnover and failed to exploit two business opportunities.
Two-thirds said they had not considered working with another business to take advantage of a situation.
Markus Calvin, director of Clearlybusiness, said: "Businesses in the region should be more proactive in exploring how they work with each other to plug their resource and capability gaps."
