Children who caused problems in Cleckheaton town centre have moved to the Spen Valley Greenway, according to the town's community policewoman.
Speaking at Spenborough Chamber of Trade, PC Penny Ayers said she had received reports of youngsters on the Greenway throwing stones, smashing windows and spitting on cars from Westgate bridge. She said they were also drinking alcohol and making their way back into the town.
Extra police patrols were in the town in February after about 50 youths smashed shop windows and intimidated passers-by. They then moved into the Peaseland area.
Chamber president Keith Joplin said closed-circuit television would help solve the problem, but PC Ayers said it would not catch the troublemakers when they left the town centre. Dewsbury and Batley both had CCTV but still suffered problems, she said
"We will take the names and addresses of these children and send stern letters home to parents telling them their child was involved in an incident," she said.
