Ben Rhydding Golf Club Ladies held the Gold Brooch nine hole Winter Medal competition with the best five scores to count. Resulkts were: 1, L M Yeadon 178; 2, S M Towler 180; 3, C M Lambert 187.

The Winter Eclectic Competition results were: 1, S M Towler; 2, C M Lambert; 3, M Place.

The Easter competition four-ball, better-ball stableford was played off a threequarter handicap. Results were: 1, D Welsh, J Guthrie, 38 points; 2, H Marshall, A Wilson 35; 3, H Birdwood, P Anderson, 32.

Coronation Foursomes resuktsa: 1, S M Towler, L M Yeadon, 70; 2, S E Hartley, J M White 73; 3, J Mullan, H Birdwood, 74.

The winners will represent the club at the district final at Keighley Golf Club, on June 7.

Medal Two was played in fine, dry conditions and results were:1, S M Towler (75); 2, C M Lambert (76) on last nine from 3, S E Hartley (76); 4, H M Sefton (79).

Good golfing conditions saw a greensome was played at Ben Rhydding Golf Club. Results:

1, J Robinson, S Watson 60 - 5; 2, S Yeadon, D Chew 61 - 5; 3, D Baker, B Robinson 62; 4, B Rockett, N Lister 62 - 5.

A four-ball, bettrer-ball was played and results were:1, A Halliday, J L Yeadon 57 nett; 2, A Leverton, W Coates 58 nett; 3, I Buchan, R Rockett 59 nett; 4, P Cliverd, P Inglis 60 nett.

In the third round of the Mail on Sunday Golf Club Classic Ben Rhydding won three matches to one against Clayton Golf Club. They now proceed to the fourth round.

Ghyll Ladies

The Ladies Coronation Foursomes were played in changeable conditions last week .

The winners were Hazel Walker and Eveline Coombe (83), Pam Newman and Jean Stead were second (85). The hundred lowest scores in the area will now go through to play in the next round.

On Thursday our Ladies played the first of their Yorkshire B league matches away against Dewsbury. The testing course, water logged in places making playing conditions difficult. The team lost the match 5-2.

On Saturday night there was an Italian night at the club which included a supper and quiz. The event was well supported and enjoyed by everyone.

On May 17 the club will be having a Hanging Basket and Patio Plants demonstration in the clubhouse and everyone is welcome.

Otley Golf

Most of the 142 members who played in the April Medal at Otley Golf Club on Saturday were in dry weather conditions but wet underfoot. Unfortunately the later players suffered very wet conditions from both overhead and underfoot as the rain came down as is the norm recently.

The ladies played club foursomes, with County foursomes qualifier and coronation foursomes in conjunction with each other this week.

The Watson Cup was played in conjunction with the April Medal, for handicaps 16 to 28. Sixteen qualifiers now go into a draw for match play deciders.

On Saturday Otley Golf Club held an AM-AM medal competition. Thirty three teams of four took part enjoying good weather and golfing conditions. Leading teams were: J A Hainsworth (9), S M Hainsworth (10), P Benson (15) G Forster (17). 128.

Ilkley Golf

Club

After so much golf in awful weather during March, the competitors for The Australian Spoons were disappointed to learn it was still 'no trolleys'.

This resulted in a small entry. The bag carrying

winners were A Jackson and P Gladstone with 29 points. Runners-up were J Schofield and J Wilson with 26 points.

The scratch team's first match of the season was a tough one. Rotherham, last year's inter-club champions, who are still in cracking form managed to beat Ilkley's not insubstantial team by six matches to a half, the halved game was Henrietta Wilman's. The match was at Rotherham, an added disadvantage.

The A team however, pulled off a splendid victory over Elland, four matches won, two halved, and one loss.The winners were P Wright, P Crabtree, E Webster, and M Bradley; Captain S Ognall, and J Sherwin halved.

Daily Mail Foursomes' nominees for 2001 Ann Newman and Daphne Hawkins, having got a bye into the second round, trounced the Cleckheaton visitors to Ilkley 9 and 7.

Finally, the qualifying round for the River Cup saw a good entry. The qualifiers, who will play in a final stroke-play round were:

Division One - P Blackburn 74, M Schofield 75 and Division Two - A Jackson 77, J Cooper 78.

An extra Medal was played in conjunction with this competition and won by P Blackburn (74)in Division One A Jackson (77) in Division Two.

Hollins Hall

Marriott Hollins Hall Hotel and Country Club near Baildon, which has one of Yorkshire's best new golf courses has been selected to stage the Euro Pro Tour Championship from October 8-11.

Some of the most talented young European players who aspire to join the PGA European Tour will compete in this 54 hole event which will decide the winner of the Europro Order of Merit. More than 150 players will compete for an estimated prize fund of £50,000 over this 6,671 yard course which is just three years old, a testament to the quality and challenge of the layout.

The event will be televised in a highlights programme on Sky Sports and a Pro-Am will precede the tournament on Monday, October 8, with teams of one professional and three amateurs.

Paul Marlow, General Manager of Marriott Hollins Hall Hotel and Country Club is delighted with the news:

Earlier in the month, Marriott Hollins Hall will also host the Regional Finals of the 2001 Times Corporate Golf Challenge on October 3. This prestigious event which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year attracts corporate golfers throughout a variety of industries including partnerships, limited and blue chip companies in the U.K.

The Horsforth Golf Club March Stableford which was postponed because of bad weather, was played on 17 April and the results were:

Division One - Barbara Cowling 40 points (19), Susan Ridyard 35 points (17), Winifred Varley 35 points (16)

Division Two - Pat Croft 32 points (24), Shirley Whittington 32 points (21)

Division Three - Anne Ferguson 34 points (37)

A total of 54 ladies entered the April Stableford, and apart from the course still being quite wet, weather conditions were extremely favourable and again only one lady, Janet Hillison, returned a score under par. The results were:

Division One - Judy Holsworth 34 points (19), Susan Ridyard 32 points (17)

Division Two - Janet Ellison 39 points (28), Shirley Whittington 31 points (21)

Division Three - Mary Smith 30 points (37), Bernice Bickerdike 29 points (33).
