BURLEY-in-Wharfedale brother and sister Simon and Danielle Jones have been coached by their father Bob to a level of excellence which has seen them win British Ikedo titles.
At the National Championships held in Sheffield on Sunday 17 year-old Danielle, a sixth form pupil at Ilkley Grammar School, produced a shock by beating the first ever women's Gladiators title winner Vanda Fairchild in the final.
This was after she had beaten some other well, established players to reach the final.
It was a great achievement for one so young and Danielle proudly left clutching her gold medal.
She is to represent Briatin in the World Championships in Japan in October.
For her 19 year-old brother Simon success was not such a great surprise as he was already the reigning World and British Champion. He picked up two gold medals and a bronze in different team event disciplines. He had another memento at the end of the day - a dislocated thumb.
Both have practised the art from the age of five and have been coached by their father Bob who runs the Wharfedale Ikedo Club in the Valley Drive School at Ilkley.
Both Simon and Danielle have been British junior champions and last year Simon won the World Gold with his partner in a demonstration event in Australia.
