Two adventure seekers from Denholme are going on an expedition of a lifetime to Africa thanks to a special travel fund.
Vanessa Barker, 16, from Whalley Lane and Sarah Mercer, 17, from Clapham Street are to travel to Malawi in July.
The students at Beckfoot School in Bingley will spend a month in the country working on community projects as well as taking in some of the scenery.
The girls' have both received £350 grants from the Rupert and Felix Greenwood Memorial Travel Fund towards the cost of their trip.
Vanessa says: "We will be painting a health centre in the village of Nikhope and interacting with the local people.
"We might also be working with blind children who have a centre in the village and we hope to do some trekking and climbing.
"We've never done anything like this before so it's quite scary, but also very exciting."
They will be joined by 10 fellow pupils and two members of the teaching staff who will fly out on July 21 for the expedition with the World Challenge organisation.
The Greenwood travel scholarship was set up in memory of the two Denholme boys who lost their lives in the Bradford City fire.
Its purpose is to provide youngsters in Denholme with the chance to travel the world on educational trips.
It is open to anyone living in the village boundary between the ages of 13 and 25. Travel must be completed within a year.
