Overseas investment in Yorkshire and Humberside has shown a marked increase in the last year.
Research by business advisers Ernst and Young shows the region is in joint sixth place in the UK for attracting inward investment over the last two years, an increase on its bottom ranking in 1999.
It secured foreign money for 27 projects in 2000, a 50 per cent increase in the 18 funded in 1999.
West and South Yorkshire were the joint most successful regions, each attracting nine projects.
Peter Whitely, head of the company's northern entrepreneurial services team, said: "It is extremely encouraging the region is able to attract investment in sectors which promise significant future benefits.
Yorkshire is proving to be an attractive location for the knowledge based, IT and communications sectors and these areas look to be key to ensuring the region's success.''
