At the first brass band festival for nearly 50 years at Hardraw Scar, near Hawes, the ravine that contains England's highest sheer drop waterfall, the winners were Skipton Brass Band, under their conductor, Mr. M. Norcross. Twelve bands competed and Skipton scored 173 points, the runners up, Earby, 172, Penrith 170, with Kendal scoring 169.

Pointing out the value of immunisation against diptheria, Dr. John Douglas. Medical Officer of Health for Bradford, told the "Telegraph and Argus" today that whereas in 1935 there were 746 cases, with 47 deaths, last year there was not a single case in the city. "This is a result of the immunisation police pursued in Bradford during the past 12 years".
