Digging in as work starts on Keighley's new 21st century bus station is veteran Keighley councillor John Prestage.
He officially kicked off nine months of work to build a state-of-the-art covered concourse for local bus passengers.
Buses are setting off from surrounding streets while the station is closed, the old 1930s bus offices demolished and a new £3 million building erected.
The futuristic concourse will house new toilets, a travel centre, CCTV cameras, shops and improved information and signs, such as electronic departure information.
The building has been designed so buses can drive in, stand at an angle to collect passengers, then reverse out.
Cllr Prestage was invited to Wednesday's ceremony because he is a Bradford council representative on the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority.
He said: "The bus station is a main gateway into our town and will provide an excellent impression for visitors, and give the people of Keighley a facility befitting 21st century expectations.
